Naučnofantastična senzacija Avatar i ratni triler The Hurt Locker predvode nominacije za ovogodišnje, 82. po redu Oskare sa po devet nominacija, među kojima u kategorijama najbolji film i najbolju režiju za Jamesa Camerona i njegovu bivšu ženu Kathryn Bigelow. Po prvi put od 1943. godine, za Oskara u kategoriji Najbolji film takmičiće se deset filmova umesto dosadašnjih pet.
